Before exploring in detail the different types of cyber security, let’s have a brief intro about what it is actually. Cyber Security isn’t just a term but it is a very broad industry in today’s era of Information Technology. Cyber Security experts are a necessity in almost all those companies, organizations, agencies, government institutions, military, etc. who are dependent for their work upon Information Technology.
Cyber Security experts are greatly in demand and it is increasing with time. I want you to follow along till the end of this article carefully in order to get to know about it in detail.
1. Understanding Cyber Security?
1.1 What is Security?
Security is the degree to which our assets are resistant to threats from our adversaries and we select security controls based on the type of threats and adversaries that we face. Security is a technology, a process, and an action.
1.2 What is Cyber Security?
Cyber Security refers to the protection of Devices, Processes, Infrastructure, and Assets of an organization from different types of cyberattacks, data theft, breaches, unauthorized access, etc.
Technology in today’s world is growing at a great speed today and everyone is adapting and moving towards more and more advancements in technology.
The more advance they are the more complex they get and thus more vulnerable they are to different cyber attacks and the more difficult it is for us to defend them without proper knowledge.
So, in order to defend ourselves properly against those cyber attacks, there is a solution that has made it possible for us to mitigate attacks of almost any nature and that solution is called Cyber Security.
2. What are the different types of Cyber Security?
6 Main Types of Cyber Security
There are the following 6 main types of Cyber Security that I’m going to discuss here:
a. Application Security
This type of Cyber Security constitutes the measures and countermeasures meant to tackle threats and vulnerabilities that arise in the development stage of an application such as designing the application, development, deployment, maintenance, and upgrade.
b. Information Security
This type of Cyber Security refers to the protection of information and data from theft, unauthorized access, and breaches in order to protect user privacy and user identity theft.
c. Disaster Recovery
This type of Cyber Security involves planning and strategizing to enable organizations to recover from cyber security disasters. It involves Risk Assessment, Risk Analysis, Prioritizing and establishing disaster response and recovery mechanisms in place.
This enables the organizations to recover faster from disasters and minimize losses.
d. Network Security
This type of Cyber Security constitutes monitoring and preventing unauthorized access and exploitation of internal networks of an organization by leveraging both hardware and software technologies. Network security ensures that internal networks are safe, reliable, and usable.
Antivirus and antispyware software, VPN, IPS, Firewall, etc. are used to prevent cyber threats facing the organization.
e. Website Security
This type of Cyber Security is used to prevent and protect websites from cyber security risks on the internet. Wholistic websites’ security programs cover the websites’ database, applications, source codes, and files.
There is a steady rise in the number of data breaches in the websites resulting in identity thefts. downtime, financial losses, loss of reputation and brand image, etc.
The main reason for this among the website owners is that their website is protected by the web hosting provider only and thus leaving them vulnerable to cyber-attacks.
f. Endpoint Security
This type of Cyber Security enables organizations to protect their servers, workstations, and mobile devices from remote and local cyber attacks.
Since devices on a network are interconnected it created entry points for threats and vulnerabilities. Endpoint effectively secures the network by blocking attempts made to access these entry points.
It is important for every person who is connected to the world of Information Technology to understand the risks and vulnerabilities that a person can face online. Different types of cyber security cover different aspects of taking preventive measures against vulnerabilities and threats. These types also include taking different actions for the recovery of data and dealing with hackers.
We cannot say that one of its types can cover all aspects or is better than the others. All of them play their own role and anyone who wants to learn about Cyber Security should know about all of these types that are discussed above.
Also, let me know in the comment section what do you think about all the stuff that I’ve discussed in this article?
